Telstra Child Flight retrieves boy from Central Coast
Twelve year old Joshua from the Central Coast was enjoying a typical
weekday afternoon, having some fun outside on his veladrome bike.
Things then took a turn for the worse for Joshua after suffering
a nasty fall from his bike and seriously injuring his head.
When his mother realised that this was quite a major fall and could
see that Joshua had suffered some significant head injuries he was
immediately bundled into the car and taken to Gosford Hospital.
On arrival Joshua began to have seizures and it was then decided
that the services of Telstra Child Flight would be needed to transport
him to Westmead Children's Hospital to receive specialist treatment.
Joshua was sedated and placed on oxygen and a drip prior to his
ride in the Telstra Child Flight chopper.
After a brief stay at Westmead to monitor his condition, Joshua
is now back at home and doing well.
Telstra Child Flight aims to dramatically reduce the amount of time
it takes to transport infants and children in regional areas to life
saving neonatal and paediatric intensive care facilities available
only in metropolitan areas and is a service provided to families
free of charge.
While major sponsor Telstra provides considerable support, Telstra
Child Flight relies heavily on the generosity of the public to help
make up for shortfalls of millions of dollars every year, to ensure
that the service stays in the air.
To make a donation to this vital service visit the Telstra Child
Flight website at www.telstrachildflight.org.au or phone 1800 244
