Wild winter weather won't stop Telstra Child Flight
Winter is fast approaching signaling a return to our winter woolies
and a strong
inclination to spend the weekend curled up in front of the television,
or perhaps
relaxing with a good book.
However for Telstra Child Flight, winter heralds an intense three
months ahead and
the commencement of the emergency helicopter services' busiest time
of year. Last
year 37% of Telstra Child Flight's total retrievals occurred during
the winter months.
Telstra Child Flight will be ready and waiting for the ensuing winter
and is proud to
be the only emergency helicopter service in the southern hemisphere
dedicated
solely to the retrieval of kids
.
Telstra Child Flight CEO, Cheryl Rose is proud of the organisation's
continued
dedication to providing intensive care treatment to kids who live
in remote or rural
areas, who are unable to access the treatment and facilities available
in
metropolitan areas.
''Telstra Child Flight will be on call throughout the winter period
to aid infants and
children across the state when they need it most.''
Many people are unaware that across NSW and the ACT there are few
hospitals
equipped to provide neonatal and paediatric intensive care treatment.
Numbering
only ten, each of these facilities is located in metropolitan areas.
Telstra Child Flight
dramatically reduces the time it takes to transport infants and children
to hospitals
that can cater for their intensive care needs.
''Each mission undertaken by our organisation costs between $6,000
and $15,000
and is provided at no charge to the families who require Telstra
Child Flight's
assistance.''
''While our major sponsor Telstra provides considerable support,
Telstra Child Flight
relies heavily on the generosity of the public to help make up for
shortfalls of
millions of dollars every year, to ensure that the service stays
in the air.''
