Save a child’s life and have the time of yours on our bush-bashing Odysseys

So, what is a Telstra Child Flight Odyssey? In short, fun. But if you feel you need a slightly more long winded version to make your decision then here it is…

The Telstra Child Flight Odysseys are first and foremost to raise money for our service, the only emergency helicopter service solely dedicated to the retrieval of critically ill and injured infants and children.

They are a fantastic way to not only raise much needed funds for the service, but so too create a greater awareness of Telstra Child Flight throughout the community of Odyssey participants and the regional areas that the Odyssey entourage passes through. Money is raised by way of the participant's entry fee.

In a nutshell, the Telstra Child Flight Odyssey is a gathering of adventure seekers and their bush-bashing vehicles (actually any road worthy vehicle will do) travelling the NSW country side taking in the sights and participating in a little healthy competition that we like to call the Odyssey Scavenger Hunt, on our caravan and motor home Odysseys. The Scavenger Hunt is aimed at helping participants learn about the different towns and regions they pass through and in turn sharing information about Telstra Child Flight with the locals they encounter. It doesn’t hurt to break up the driving either!

Telstra Child Flight Odysseys journey all over NSW, from Cootamundra and Tamworth to Canberra and Wagga Wagga and everywhere in between. And they're not only for car enthusiasts either. Telstra Child Flight hosts motor bike events and caravan and motor home Odysseys throughout the year as well. Keep an eye on our events webpage for all the latest details and new Odysseys.

Telstra Child Flight Odysseys vary in price depending on the duration, distance and type of adventure. All Odyssey's require an entry fee per vehicle and an additional meal fee for each participant. For certain events participants are also required to book and pay for their accommodation. Telstra Child Flight provides a list of recommended accommodation so all Odyssey participants can lodge together. Prior to the event, entry fees are raised in the participant's community, by way of sponsorship, raffles, auctions, trivia nights etc. Before you start fundraising you will need a letter that specifies you as an official Telstra Child Flight fundraiser, which can be obtained by contacting our Odyssey Coordinator, Dave Read on the below details.

Any vehicle can be entered into a Telstra Child Flight Odyssey, as long as it is registered, reliable and road worthy. It can be either two of four wheel drive. Prior to embarking on the Odyssey, the vehicle's current registration papers and pink slip (or road worthy certificate or letter of road worthiness from a registered mechanic for those outside NSW) must be produced for the approval of organisers. A current driver's license must be produced by every team member who intends to drive at any stage throughout the Odyssey.

Your vehicle must be fitted with an amber flashing light (no other colour is permitted), a UHF radio, front and rear towing points, a first aid kit, 10 litres of drinking and a snatch strap.

If an entrant encounters a situation which renders them unable to participate in an Odyssey that has already been paid for all fees will be credited to future Odysseys. This includes entry fees and all meal monies already paid. This means that the entrant doesn't miss out on the fun and the monies raised through sponsorship and fundraising will still be donated to the organisation.

If you think that the Telstra Child Flight Odyssey sounds like it's been created with you in mind then contact our Odyssey Coordinator Dave Read on 0417 607 390 or dread@childflight.org.au for further information or to book your spot on an upcoming Odyssey.
